Been here several times now always good food and drinks and great staff
Went there for the first time for our work's Christmas meal. Started with a "prawn cocktail"This should be renamed a micro prawn, or baby shrimp cocktail. Seriously those things were tiny. Then roast turkey with seasonal vegetables for main.Without doubt, the driest piece of Turkey I have ever eaten, no amount of watery gravy could save it. It was like a sponge trying to suck the moisture from everything else on my plate.Parsnips, well I think that's what they were, had the look and taste of pork scratchings.Again I was unable to save them with the watery gravy. All other veg had been boiled to within an inch of there lives, hence they were mushy at best.Sausages wrapped in bacon, again a bit dry but edible. I passed on desert, but looking around the table I'm glad I did.Nice pub for a drink, but that's about it.
Went for dinner with my family for a family birthday meal and I wasnt impressed unfortunately. Firstly, there was a man staggering all over the pub sniffing peoples food and getting too close for comfort. Before it got to that stage where I literally had to shoo him away from me, the pub should have asked him to leave the premises as he had clearly had too much and other customers apart from us were getting disturbed. Its only because another man stood up to him that he was asked to leave. When we had sat down, we ordered drinks which the majority of didnt arrive before our food despite us asking twice. The waitress did not know what food she was bringing out saying we had ordered beef and had to be told by her colleague it was turkey...The food was edible but wasnt great, apart from the chocolate orange brownie which was very nice. My husbands mac and cheese was drowning in cheese, my chicken was dry. The chips were nice. My nephew who is 4 had to wait extra time to receive his dessert which isnt good enough when all of the adults had received their food. The waitress didnt wait to find out who had pre ordered desserts, it was all a bit of an unorganised mess to be honest. Finally, the bill was incorrect 3 times which to give the waiter his due, he did try and resolve with us. By that point, wed had enough and just wanted to leave. We wouldnt return and staff evidently need further training. Shame.
What a gem! I travel the length and breadth of Britain and get to see many different establishments, this was by far one of the best! Dinner, bed and breakfast - all I want is good food, friendly staff and a clean room (and bed!) And I got it!! The room was clean, tasteful and comfortable. The dinner was close to perfect - crisp cool salad, chips cooked to perfection and every bite of my meal was hot and bursting with flavour! Oh, did I forget to mention? They even have my favourite beer on tap - Doom Bar! What more could a weary traveller want?
Great place for the family whether it is an afternoon drink or meal. Very accommodating for all diets with friendly and helpful staff. Nothing was too much trouble. Thank you
